Solar energy: the impossible dream

The Scientific Alliance and Adam Smith Institute have today published a new report by Dr Capell Aris. Entitled Solar Power in Britain: the Impossible Dream, it builds on his previous study Wind Power Reassessed: a Review of the UK Wind Resource for Energy Generation.

In the new study, a key conclusion is that solar energy makes little sense in UK latitudes, except as a way to supplement domestic space and water heating. Combining the data on wind and solar, and taking account of renewable energy from the Continent, the fact is that we cannot rely on these sources for a secure electricity supply.

See coverage in the Times (Solar panels highly productive ‘only nine days a year’) and the National (Solar panels ineffective in UK climate, says report from Adam Smith Institute).
